I had an IT degree. It just depends on how 'entry' they expect you to be. I knew my stuff but uni isnt the best place for hands on experience. I would say I am learning far quicker working than i ever did at uni.

Cheers, I realised that the server they will be connecting to already has a vlan on another connected stack so i will set up the same vlan on the switch that i am connecting to.

Thanks for the advice. I was finding it quite confusing!!

I started off working for peanuts (14k in edinburgh......) and managed to get a years experience under my belt at an entry level IT position for a new small company. Good experience because they didnt have a lot of staff so got to do a lot of different things even though money was a struggle.

Telnet Sessions

I have logged into one of the switches (call it S1) at work via telnet. From that switch I then logged into a second switch (S2). I telnetted into both these switches.

Looking for a decent free (if possible) port mapping tool. Downloaded a trial version of switch inspector but it doesnt show every 2nd port!! Therefore need to fill in the blanks!
