Thanks, YeOldeStonecat, that is a good one (Dallas). I tested at greater than 29 Mbs, but still no statistics as are given by the NDT sites.

Looks like time to give up, John.

Thanks again for your reply, but I have tried all of those with no useful results. I got the following from the one you suggested:

This connection is network limited 99.83% of the time.

The theoretical network limit is 5.18 Mbps
The NDT server has a 50.0 KByte buffer which limits the throughput ...

trogers,
Thanks for your reply, but I am not looking for help tuning. I am looking for an NDT test site(or some site) that returns diagnostic information (Statistics) that help me determine if I need to increase or decrease my RWIN (for example). I have one local test site that shows around 20 Mbs ...

NDT test site for 20Mbs?

My cable ISP has increased my DL speed above 20 Mbs. This is great but I am having trouble finding a decent test site. All the NDT sites I used before (at 7 Mbs) either do not work, report a 10 Mbs sub-net or yield ridiculously low tested speeds. The Miranda NDT site shows about 5 Mbs but I can DL ...

Chrysalis,
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately I do not have a choice of high speed ISPs here. Road Runner is the only cable provider in my area and DSL is not available at all. I am getting good speeds after tweaking (>90% advertised) but suspect I might see some 'snappiness' improvement if the ...

I think I have discovered why my TCP/IP ANalyzer results were sometimes random. It was the way I created the shortcut to the site. I simply dragged the URL from the IE address bar to my links bar. This URL contains the results of the test I had just executed. Apparently under certain conditions ...

I set Max Duplicate ACKs to 3 and ran a test with the NSF NDT site. I see little if any difference with the speed results. The minimum RWIN is actually less than it was with a setting of 2. My results using TCP/IP ANalyzer are also about the same. Most of the time my RWIN is reported as 140160 (my ...

Thanks, trogers for your response.
I have been running my tests on a separate machine which I don't currently have in service. It will be a few days before I again am using that machine, so I cannot respond to your request at this time.
I do have some observations:
I have used several NDT sites ...

TCP/IP Analyzer RWIN sometimes wrong.

I have been using an RWIN of 140160 for some time but sometimes when I run TCP/IP ANalyzer it reports 137240. I have captured a Wireshark trace and the hex equivalent of 137240 scaled by a factor of 4 is not present. The value 137240 is also not present in my Registry. The funny thing is that I used ...

Thanks, trogers for your reply. It seems to me you are saying that TCP/IP ANalyzer is seeing zero for my ToS/DiffServ value but other sites are seeing 80. I don't see how this can be. One web site should see the same thing as any other - right?
Thanks.............John

I ran a Wireshark trace of the TCP Analyzer and I can see that I am sending a x'50' (decimal 80) in my outgoing packets for ToS/DiffServ. Is TCP analyzer reporting erroneously or is somebody along the line reseting the field to zero?
Thanks.....John

Question for mccoffee (or anyone):
You recommend uninstalling all items in LAN Connections but TCP/IP. Is it not sufficient to uncheck these items? If uninstalled can they be easily re-installed if needed later?

ToS set to 80, TCP Analyzer says 0.

I set DisableUserTOSSetting to 0 and DefaultTOSValue to 80 but TCP Analyzer reports 0. I see these values in my Registry after a reboot.
Is it possible that my ISP (Time Warner Road Runner) is clearing these values? If so, is there a work around?
My speeds are good but am curious why I don't see the ...

I used the speedguide TCP Optimizer manual to form my original question.
There is a note at the end of the DiffServ Codepoints table that says:
Values not in the above table can get reset to the default (0), or have the connection reset .
What I am asking is when is the value in ToS/DiffServ ...

It turns out there is a standard defining terms such as KiB and MiB representing 1024 Bytes and 1048576 Bytes. See this Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibibyte for some detail. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibi#IEC_standard_prefixes for more detail.

From my reading of the TCP Optimizer manual, the DefaultTOSValue of 240 (x'F0') would not be a legal DiffServ value but would be a valid ToS value. This raises the question: When is the DefaultTOSValue taken as a ToS value and when is it a DiffServ value?

Units and other basic questions.

What units are represented by the various letters:
kbs - 1000 bit per second or 1024?
mbs - 1000000 bits per second or 1048576?
Is there any chance that the many speed test sites are consistent?
What units are ISPs quoting?

Does TCP Optimizer ever modify settings on the adapter card? When I look at ...
