Running Vista64. D-Link dc 202 modem and dlink router 4300

My ventrilo and xfire keeps dropping as well my games, basically I keep getting crazy lag spikes even tho cs source isnt showing loss and im pinging 50. I tested my speeds from speakeasy and i get 18 megs down 3 up. Whats strange tho is ...

New modem.

Hi guys. Im curious to know what the best modem is to buy. i currently have a arris tm502g and no longer want to rent it from my ISP. I play alot of games and have a small wireless network setup for a laptop. Thanks.

Hey guys I could use some help. My ventrilo and game ping keeps spiking as of late and I called my ISP but everything checked out. He said something keeps "pinging" my modem. Any ideas??

Ok so the router and modem are connected to my pc. The modem cable is plugged into the back of the router and the other end is still in the modem. The router ethernet cable is plugged into the back of my pc and then the other end is plugged into the router. Make sense?? Im horrible with networking

honestly in the short time spent without the router i would say no. Is there any 3rd party firmware for this guy or possibly any advanced wireless settings in the router that i could adjust for gaming/packetloss???

Wow i feel like this thread doesnt wanna die lol. Anyways, back to business....the router is still dropping packets and im now noticing my ventrillo ping shoots up in the 2000 area when the packetloss is occuring. Are there any settings within the router (wrt54g v8) that i can play with to help ...

well i tried resetting the router with no luck. everytime i plug it in i cant get internet access. the only thing i noticed under network properties is when the router is plugged in there is another connection logo saying gateway which is disabled. beyond that im clueless.

Ok so 2 techs came down and tested everything. they both said the modem is working perfectly and they pin pointed the router as being the problem. Its a lynksys wrt54g v8 router. without the router plugged in everything works fine. so basically i upgraded the firmware on the router but to no luck ...

Update*



Reformatted HD to no avail. I still get packetloss in game but not as much. My web browsing is still sluggish but my dl speeds are fine. Also, i found out that we signed up for voice over ip that came as a package deal. not sure if this would cause any problems im just throwing it out ...

Checked with Cox....everything checked out great. Speakeasy tests were 15megs down and 2 up. not sure what to do. :(
