Best place to benchmark connection?

Anyone have any links where I can benchmark my connection speed.

I would use Road Runners but it seems a bit biased.

Need a good Cable Modem, your thoughts.

I subscribe to Kansas City Time Warner cable service wich also includes Road Runner Internet. My main problem is that my 3com modem sucks. I know people with Toshibas that just fly past me in DL and upload speeds.

I also work at Best Buy, who as of about a week ago now sells cable modems. The two ...

Problem with KK266-R

My Via Hardware Monitor only says that I have 4.5 volts on my 5 volt reading. I'm thinking that this is what is hindering me from having a sucessful cold boot with a agp vid card found.

Please post or email me if you have any sugestions or if you are having this problem.

TDK 24x10x40 Defies Common Sense

I recently noticed while at work, that the TDK 24x10x40 has only a 2mb buffer. Since writing at 24x is faster than 2mb a second, acutally much faster, why in the world would you only have a less-than-one-second buffer.

To me this doesn't make sense, the Yamaha 20x10x40 uses an 8mb buffer which I ...

HL server problem with Linksys router.

I have my router set up so that one of my computers is using DMZ (the server) and the other using DHCP.

When I make a hl server and people join, it just starts kicking them like mad.

I have tried to use my server directly hooked up to the cable modem and it works fine.

Please tell me how to fix ...

New multiplyer for Palaminos......

I just flashed my bios today on my Iwill KK266-R. To my surprise there were many new memory tweaks, and fixes for the SBlive bug. But one major thing caught my attention quickly, now I have options for a multiplyer up to 14.

Yep 14. I am wondering if this is for the new 1.4 Tbird or is it for the ...

Demagnetization

What you need to do is demagnetize your hard drive. To do this take a large magnet and rub it in a counterclockwise circle around the back of the hard drive. Once this is done, turn the computer back on and you should be ready to go.

KK266-r, does it kill power supplies?

I, and a close friend, both have a KK266-r. We each now have gone through 2 power supplies a peice. Both of his were generic but both of mine were Enermax 431w power supplies. I know that 431w is plenty for the board and components but I was wondering if any of you readers have had any problems like ...

] A very heart wrenching story, <insert sarcasm> one that surely saddens many in the computer industry. . . . Rambus found guilty of Fraud today. Yes, I have actually and both of my geforce cards work in both of my old computers.

This is really getting anoying, I'll probably end up with another board from a different brand. Abit has lost a customer on this one, it's too much hassle to play a guessing game with a motherboard, they don't grow ...

KT7A-R......HELP!!!!!!!!!!

My f***ing KT7A-R doesn't like my Leadtek Geforce 2 Pro.

It won't boot, nor post for that matter.

My ASUS v7700 works in it, but has instability problems.

Have any of you had problems with the voltage on this board?

I meant to say that if the 1.7 ghz P4 can't even stack up to a 1.33 GHZ Tbird, then why bother with the extra money.

Ok first off I think you are still confused, the VIA PRO266 is for PIII's, the VIA KT266 is for AMD.

Tests have shown that the VIA PRO266 has almost no advantage over regular SDRAM.

My days of Intel loving are over, if yo

Hmmm, you make a good point. Abit is my choice for mobos so here is some juice on that.

I was thinking about creating a solid silver heat sink (yes I said solid). I would be using old sterling silver spoons and forks, as well as some other silver that I can find at pawn shops and antique stores. I will be using a mold made directly from a Alpha cooler.

I would appreciate any feedback ...

If Microsoft was smart, which they aren't, they would make a OS with no frills, and built just for gaming and internet stuff.

I don't want any help, wizards, built in games, and any other crap that gets in my way.

Have it built off of a D3D based kernel with optimizations for OGL.

PIV vs. TBird vs. Palimino vs. CUmine

First I would like to point out that this is one of the worst times to buy a new system. It's right at the end of a generation peak and the new hardware is just beggin for a price cut (ie. P4 this week). AMD will release a new core (Palimino), Intel has a new PIII commin out, not to mention a DDR ...
