reboot the laptop.. enter bios, set it to boot from CD, put your Disk in and let it format and reinstall using the XPhome key that is on the sticker on his laptop or his product key.. then update everything and your set

He has no product key...I have one thats with theXp home disk i have. Think i tried that but it still would not work..I'll try again. Do I need to shut it down with the disk in it after i change it in the bios and then restart it?

well if you go with a 8800 series card be it the GTS or the GTX your going to be bottlenecked by the processor no matter which way you go. Thanks but i have it fixed now. I just deleted it from my hardware manager and went to the HP website and downloaded an update for the keyboard and it seems to be working ok now. If you could find a solution to my other problem, That would be GREAT! Thanks again for trying to help..Kevin

file associations might have something to do w/ it... maybe that jukebox app needs to load first and that's why no sound at start up & shut down. The app might shut down before win does.

Did you try uninstall the sound card from device manager then reboot? Might wanna back up the sound card drivers first. Try updating the those drivers?

I agree with shaggy onupgrading the PSU, newer video cards suck down a lot more power.

Adding ram doesnt affect CPU cache.

It shows 2 most likely because its an HT(HyperThreading) P4 and absically recycles its wasted cpu time into a virtual 2nd processor.
