Actually uncapping can't be likened to stealing extra channels because there is no option (yet but it is in the works) to buy more bandwidth.

Not really an issue on leased modems, if you open and screw with it you bought it plain and simple.

True it is and I agree with it BUT I (and I am sure ...

Uncapping might be a taboo topic on this board but it's not illegal. Definately a violation of any intelligently written TOS but Illegal? Come on.

Personally I'd like to know if it is possible to hardwire a modem to ignore the cap. I don't think it's possible and as with most other posts on ...

Who was it that posted that thread, Mystic?

Didn't He/She say that the complaint got forwarded to a number of states?

I find it funny that not one bit of news ever came of this. I could of very easily of missed it cause I don't watch the news everyday but I do read alot of news sites and never saw ...

Here's the big fact that everyone seems to miss on this board:

It doesn't matter who the ISP is, @home and RR generally use the same policies in regards to capping and what not.

It doesn't matter who the cable company is, they also generally use the same policies from franchise to francise.

What ...

I think it depends on the cable company as to whether it's a local problem or not. I had a problem with comcast@home on the 3rd and it was a local problem, not the cable but the feed into the headend.

If you are getting the run around from the tech support call up the local company and talk to the ...

Original question from neggo:

Is there anyway to use an amp on a cable modem?

The answer is yes you can.

Will it fry your modem?

No it won't unless it is back feeding voltage which they are not supposed to do.

Is there any good reason to put one on?

99 times out of a 100 the answer is no in ...

I know my modem can go faster my limit is 190 but sometimes it jumps to 213 and higher and immediatly drops down under 190 again.

that won't let you go above a certain download limit ...

Yeah you could have a short on the cord, uncommon but not unheard of, specially if the system you are in uses more than 1 type of modem and they use different voltage.

Is the power going off on the modem too? If that is the case did they swap the power cord when they swapped the modem?

You shouldn't be losing power to the modem even if you are losing synch. Then again I've never worked with a surfboard b4 so it could be just they way that one works.
