You may need to clone the MAC address to the WAN side of the Linksys. A lot of cable companies use the MAC address as authentication.

I had to use it a couple of days ago when I got AT&T cable internet servise. Wasn't too bad. It appears to run off of the CD, and not install any exe's on your computer.

What it looked like it did was:

I had Verizon ADSL for about 6 months. It was horrible.

I canceled that service, went with a Covad reseller. Since then, I have not had an outage in 14 months.

I think whether or not you have problems with DSLdepends upon your ISP, the CLEC and ILEC, distance from CO, connection protocol, etc. etc.

Verizon was pretty bad.

I hear that they have improved.

That means they have probably progressed from abysmal to just really really bad.

Windows and Mac can't share files or see each other out of the box. The only way to have a Mac see a Windows machine and vice versa is to use third party software.

Two of the more popular programs are PC Maclan from Miramar http://www.miramar.com/ and Dave from Thursby http://www.thursby.com ...

TCP/IP is TCP/IP and is platform independent.

Set TCP/IP settings in the Mac using the same parameters as used for the Wintel machines. Since you are using WinProxy which is a software based NAT, this will work fine for sharing DSL for the Mac also.

A router has been a good hardware solution for ...

You will not need Home Networking Wizard if you have a router.

I don’t know what service you are using, but you enter the information given to you by your ISP into the main Linksys set up page.

Try setting your system up like this.

Go to the Linksys Admin page.

Enable DHCP server
Starting IP ...

It depends.

If you have a static IP, only one PC can sign on at a time unless you are behind a NAT device, which a hub is not.

If you use PPPoE, you can probably have each computer sign on using the PPPoE software on each PC and each will be assigned it's own IP address.

It is also probably in ...

The Linksys router is a NAT device, not a firewall. The latest firmware has SPI capability built into it, but I am not certain how effective their implementation is.

Being a NAT device, the router will go a long way towards foiling intruders by making it more difficult to get into your system. It ...

If the issue started immediately subsequent to adding the new NIC, try swapping your NIC out with one from one of the other PC's. If it still doesn't work, you will have eliminated the NIC.
