I hope you're not going to switch back to ie6 because you're not hearing those sounds.... LOL.

Mozilla doesn't have the sounds... It's an IE6 microsoft thing only. Microsoft has programmed it into their browser. Mozilla has not.

Why do you have windows 98 tweaks for windows xp?

Any tweaking done to the system.ini in windows xp has no effect.

Need RWIN formula tested.

Would somebody mind testing out this new rwin formula I have for XP/2k:

x=your cap in bits
mss=your mss (usually 1460)
mtu=your mtu (usually 1500)

e.g: If you cap is is 1.5mb/sec multiply 1.5*1000000 to get your cap in bits.

x/8*1460/1500=TcpWindowSize

If the value is an odd integer or has ...

The Windows XP format utility allows you to set the chunk size for your NTFS partition.

I set mine equal to what it would be if I partitioned with FAT32. I wasn't surprised when I actually gained performance.

An original tweak?

I was looking at stuff to tweak in my PC and came upon the IRQ priority control tweak for WinXP.

I noticed a nice boost after giving the real time clock maximum priority. From that point onwards I decided to give my DMA controllers a priority boost, and then my NIC was next in line for priority ...

Don't forget that the ip header when using ping -f -l command is only 28 bytes.

That's why mine will go to 1472. 1472+28=1500.

When using that system add 28 to the number and then subtract 40 for the mss to be used in your config.

afd, tcpip ramdisk "trick"

What exactly is the point of putting the afd,tcpip drivers into ram?

Windows puts them into memory during startup.
With this "tweak" my startup times are horrible and if I go to a different domain name it takes a lot longer to get the dns.

Well, looks like you've hit your max. I envy you though. I am capped at 1500/128, and rarely hit even 90% of the cap even with all the tweaks.

You can't really do much for gaming. Gamings uses UDP, and therefore no amount of tweaking to TCP/IP will improve game play.

I believe it has more to do with what the motherboard sets it to, and which pci slot it's in.

Each motherboard varies which pci slots have which irq.

Only guess, but I'm sure it's more accurate than defaults for types of cards.

I usually shoot to kill when I see ACPI. At least in win2k/xp I've had major stability issues with my videocard sharing IRQ's with other devices.

I try chaning them in the bios, but unlike your results win2k/xp don't follow those on my system(s).

To tell you the truth a lot of people on this site are wishing that tweak worked. You can't assign memory to IRQ's using the system.ini file. Memory assignment is done by the kernel or the drivers.

So you don't have to worry about anything.

But if they convince you otherwise and you decide to use ...

Sorry to break the news, but you can't do much for upload without uncapping (changing the rated speed) which is illegal.

There really isn't a fullproof way to hack your modem to give you higher upload speeds. Tweaking does absolutely nothing for upload.

Even if you did uncap your modem your ISP ...
