try hitting ESC at the logon screen, it's been a while since I've dealt with 98 but should get you in... 98 isn't secure at all as far as password protection.

or try replacing this dll mshtml.dll

should be in the i386 folder on your 2k cd, copy it over to a temp folder and go to a command prompt change over to that folder and type expand mshtml.dl_ mshtml.dll and it will expand it. Reboot in sfae mode and now replce the newely expanded dll to C:\winnt ...

I would assume you should be able to configure your public modem to vend out dhcp to a specific IP range and then set up your other single modem/client with a static out of the dhcp range but with the same IP scheme.

Example: public modem is dhcp with IP range 192.168.0.100 to .254

Well the client needs to be listening on ports, run netstat to show what ports your client is listening for. Basically if it's running the telnet service then yes it's listening on port 23 by default.

The router would also have for be forwarding to a specific IP / client machine.

It's fairly easy, yes turn on IIS, patch it up and run hfnetchk it will with security checking and free from MS download site... plus you can run a IIS tool from MS downloads as well.

ya just setup the ftp server to use what ever port you want. You can do this with any ftp server software.. donno about IIS though. I use serv-u on port 25412.
