on the K7's it is done in the BIOS - and they used to have this neat program called 'Fuzzy Logic' that allowed you to adjust voltages and timing, but I think they did away with it and replaced it with an updated BIOS on later mobo's that controlled all the timings and ...
After all that effort, it makes a SCSI/IDE RAID mirror and the cost of an extra hard-drive seem like a good deal!! I've heard about the freezer trick but never known anyone who did it. Congrats on a great save . . . . and as always BACKUP all critical data!

Since you obviously are concerned with your RAM, verify its compatibility with the system and make sure you don't have a mismatch of vendor, SPD & non-SPD, mobo., etc., that makes the 'sticks' not play well with one ...
