Thermal compound is alredy on there, and right now the problem is with my XP 2100+ which runs at 1.7-1.8ghz, not 2ghz. The 2400+ and 3000+ I returned and just want my old CPU back to its normal speed until I get a new mobo and upgrade to a Athlon 64. Should I lower the multiplier then?

My mobo is MSI KT4AV series with 1 stick of 256mb PC2100, 1 stick PC21000 512mb and one stick 512mb PC4000. The FSB was and has always been on 133 before I needed to change it, and the multiplier, again, was and always hass been on Auto, so could that still be the problem?

Odd New and Current CPU Problem...

Hi, well it all started with an AMD Athlon XP "Barton" 3000+ which I had a problem with as described here .

So I returned that, and got this . Same FSB as current 2100+ so it should be all good. I put it in, and the computer spits out beeps...high pitched beep...then a low pitched beep...over and ...

I have and it isn't. It reas 1.75ghz when it is suppose to be 2.1ghz. The problem is pretty much solved, which is that I require new memory to get the full 2.1ghz. I may just exchange it for a 266 fsb chip and continue using this memory, or I may hold on to the chip until I get a new mobo and more ...

Hey guys,

Well I recently ordered an OEM version CPU from NewEgg, http://www.newegg.com/app/viewprodu...-103-394&DEPA=0 , an Athlon XP 3000+ Barton.

I got the CPU, and looked at the model # and it indeed had the 3000 within the model number. The problem is when I put it in and loaded the system ...
