it seems to have worked!

ok when i put the computer that gets kicked off aol as the dmz host it doesnt get kicked off aol...how can i fix this so i dont get kicked off aol and that i dont have to use that computer as the dmz host...

changing the mtu didnt work at all..any other ideas anyone?

i appreciate your help but it seems like a band-aid fix rather than a real fix...this is what netgear support told me to do..ill inform you all of the success or failure of it

ok i changed my AIM preferences and that reconnects me...by why does it kick me off in the first place?

I'd rather not do static ip's and just use DHCP...does anyone know how i can fix this problem of kicking me off AIM?

it seems every 1 hour or so my aol im automatically loses its conection. Thr other computer i have running doesnt.

I have a Netgear WR614 V4 - last firmware...

all connections are wired..there are no things connected to it wirelessly.

ok so when i add the printer, i add it as a local printer, then i choose create new port - tcp/ip port...then i input the printers ip address which i will input as is without quotations "192.168.1.6"

but what do i use for a port name?!?!

what static ip info should i use (ie. gateway, subnet mask, ip )for the printer when the other computers are using DHCP.

Also after setting the printer for static ip should i be able to see the printer on the computers when i search for networked printers???

yes i am using Jet Direct and it plugs into network via RJ-45...

how do i know which version of jet direct to download from HP.com

we dont have the software for the printer....

printer is on, read status, plugged into the network, but won't come up when i search for networked printers...

i have a wan ip address...

my TCP/IP settings on my computers are set to Obtain IP address auto, WINS is disabled, nothing is in mygateway, and DNS is disabled.

and it still doesnt work!!!

Neither computer can get online. One computer can get to the linksys menu (192.168.1.1) to see the settings and the other computer cant...ideas???

I tried different network cables and ports, the computer that cant go online can check the settings on the router via http://192.168.1.1

You have 2 pc's on the network correct? Yes i have 2 pc's on the network

If you plug the modem straight into the pc, that pc's would have to have the correct host name (DNS name) and the TCP/IP properties config. correctly for the nic. or you will not get online. Did you make these changes to the ...

i plugged the modem directly into the computer that couldnt get online and it still couldnt get online...i ran WINIPCFG and it couldnt get any info still or get online...

the network wizard didn't work, the computers both were online one day and now one doesnt work, nothing was downloaded or installed so i dunno what the problem is...

i tried everything the trouble shooter says....its not the router its the computer itself b/c i plugged the modem directly into it and got the same problem...

* i plugged the modem directly into the computer that cant get online and it could get online
* i then put a new network card in and it still doesnt work
* i changed the cat 5 cables and its not that cause the computer that can get online still does witht he cat 5 ...

i tried to ping but it says unknown site, so i can tping...THIS is weird b/c my other computer gets onlibne using the same router i even changed the ports on the router and my other computer still gets on but my roomates cant....the nic card shows up in hardware profile, and i removed and added it ...

I tried freeing up the port to allow for http server but I do it no one outside of my network can access it...please hlep!!!!
