I got this router about a week ago and have spent every evening mucking about with it to try and get NAT type 2 for my PS3 (GTAIV kept kicking me out of games)

After much swearing and so on I have finally got it working.

I tried port forwarding but to no avail. I turned of the firewall etc. I also tried the 'assign a device to the public address' business but that didn't work either.

My next move was to try CLI. This is what I found out:

- The GUI cannot fully turn off the firewall, but the CLI can
- The Port Forwarding works through host services, these services create a NAT mapping dynamically. Unfortunately, you have no control over whether it's inbound, outbound or both, even through CLI PS3 seems to need 3658 inbound and outbound to get NAT type 2, so these services are no good (or maybe I don't fully understand them)
-In the CLI you can create a NAT mapping, but this will be invalidated when you get a new public IP unless your internet connection has a fixed IP. Creating a inbound and outbound NAT mapping on 3658 will give you NAT type 2 for the duration of your lease of your IP, anyway, so this is an option.
- If you fully disable the firewall and the intrusion detection through the CLI, and delete all the services, you seem to get uPnP enabled and hence don't have to worry about port mapping at all. I don't know how wise this is, or whether it would still work if I turned some bits back on, might try this later.

To access CLI, go to run and type 'telnet' and then o xxx.xxx.x.xxx (the ip address of your router).

firewall config state=disabled
(fully disables firwall)
ids config state=disabled
(fully disables intrustion detection)
service host flush
(remove all port mapping services)

If you want to temporarily open 3658 for the PS3 then do

nat mapadd intf=Internet type=nat outside_addr=[your public IP]
inside_addr=[your PS3 IP] protocol=udp outside_port=3658 inside_port=3658 weight=50

Hope some of that makes sense. Don't hold me responsible if you break it, I have to confess I don't really understand what I'm doing but I might as well share what insights I have gained (at hideous cost to my mental health)

forgot something important about CLI - do 'saveall' after making any changes.

also, save your current config first (you can do this with the GUI - http://192.168.254). This is quite handy as the config file is just CLI commands so you can edit it and load the new file if you want. You can also find your internet login and password in this file which might come in handy.

Password is not working what to do
by anonymous - 2009-06-30 10:31
password for router config should be admin (username admin). As for internet connection, you'd have to ask your ISP I think
by anonymous - 2009-07-18 12:38
i have reset the router but it still ask for user name and pasword when i type Administrator as user name and pasword bank it wont work please help
by CROWBAR - 2009-07-23 00:32
Default user name is Administrator and password is blank .....
by anonymous - 2009-08-03 20:38
solved it!!! for those that have problems loggin in they should try username: Administrator and password: Administrator. after logging in dont press "reset password" go press "change password". What happens when you press reset password is that the system sets the pass same as the username, hence the "Administrator" pass, when you press "change pass" you can set it as you like. Hope it works for you cause it worked for me!!

I've had the same problem many of the above users have experienced when changing the password.

HERE'S HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!

1. Press: Windows Key + R
2. Type "%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\telnet.exe" in the textbox

A black window should appear...

3. Type "open 192.168.1.254"
4. Enter the username, if you don't know try "Administrator" or "admin" and press Enter.
5. Enter the new password you've set and then press Enter

If the username and password are entered correctly, carry on as mentioned below. However, if not, repeat steps 3-5 until you get it right.

6. Type "system reset"
7. Type "no" for factory
8. Type "yes" to confirm reset

This should reset the user specific settings of your router. You might lose connection afterwards, so don't worry you see a "Connection is lost..." message.

That's it!
You should now be able to access it without being asked for a password :)
Tell me if it works with you...

Have a TG585v7, awful router. Damn thing refuses to stay up longer than a few hours. I've tried firmwares, resets, all the normal things that make other routers work but this thing is just rubbish. Avoid this like the plague.

I have had a problem trying to connect to xbox live with this wireless router. It just continually fails to assign the IP address. Tired, and very frustrated at not being able to connect. Will need the help of an expert to get this going....unless anyone knows any different?? Good luck!

I have been sent this Speedtouch ST585 as an UPGRADE from Netgear by AOL. What a load of rubbish. Can no longer connect my sons laptop upstairs as there is only one signal bar. The Netgear had a full signal. AOL tell me that the Speedtouch is as good as if not better than the Netgear one. The only way to use the laptop upstairs is to bring it downstairs to get a FULL connection signal and then take it back upstairs. What a pain this is proving to be. Any one got any suggestions as to how to get a stronger signal. I am quite a novice with computers and just want to connect hassle free!!
by anonymous - 2010-03-29 23:42
I changed the password and tried to get in and it kept saying the password was wrong

Untill ...
I used the user "Administrator" not "administrator" - It appears to be case sensitive in the username
