Yahoo enters browser market with Axis2012-05-24 09:44 by DanielaTags: Yahoo, Axis
Search giant Yahoo, has introduced a new browser enhancement, called "Axis." The aim is to speed up search by doing it all on the same page. The company released the Axis mobile app in Apple's app store late Wednesday. That version will work only on Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The software also can be installed as a plug-in for most major desktop browsers for computers and laptops. Once installed, Axis resides in a little search bar in a corner of the screen, which expands when a search query is entered, showing a strip of site preview thumbnail images. A device running Axis can display search results in a panorama of visual thumbnails that can be scrolled through above a Web page. It's a departure from search engines' traditional presentation of a list of staid Web links that require more navigation and guesswork.
