Verizon Wireless, owner of the nation's largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, announced today the expansion of its 4G LTE network in 22 markets, including the Philadelphia area, where its 4G LTE network is already available. This expansion, which officially takes place Thursday, June 21, will enable customers in more areas to take advantage of the company's blazing fast 4G LTE speeds and connectivity.

In addition to the expansions in 22 markets, the company will introduce its 4G LTE network in 46 new markets the same day. With the new and expanded markets, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network will be available in a total of 304 markets, covering more than two-thirds of the U.S. population.

Verizon Wireless launched its 4G LTE network in the Philadelphia market in December 2010 and, since that time, has aggressively filled in and expanded the network in the Philadelphia vicinity and across central and eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless' 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
