T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile heading to Walmart soon

T-Mobile and Walmart announced that Metro by T-Mobile plans and devices will come to Walmart retail locations followed by T-Mobile. The carrier's services will be available in 2,300 Walmart locations as well as Walmart.com. T-Mobile is also looking to expand into around 1,000 Best Buy locations.

T-Mobile's prepaid Metro by T-Mobile brand will be available at certain Walmart locations starting October 18. The stores will carry Metro by T-Mobile smartphones, including 5G, three options for unlimited plans, as well as prepaid SIMs for eligible devices. Customers can purchase in store and activate online.

Beginning in November, consumers can shop at the Walmart locations for T-Mobile-branded postpaid devices and plans, including Magenta Max, and activate in-store.

T-Mobile's corporate merger with Sprint last year necessitated this massive brick-and-mortar boost - which includes an aggressive build-out of its own stores - across suburban, exurban, and rural regions to match its ambitious plans for a nationwide 5G network.

Prior to becoming available in Walmart and Best Buy, T-Mobile iPhones were only available from Apple, Costco, or direct from T-Mobile's website and stores, which prevented customers from taking advantage of deals offered by brick and mortar retailers.
