T-Mobile has announced that it's relaunching its Layer3 IPTV service, called TVision Home later this week in eight US cities including Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington DC metro areas, as well as Longmont, Colorado. The availability will continue to expand, but those are the only areas that will be able to get it right away.

This comes after T-Mobile in 2017 acquired TV startup Layer3 TV. The wireless carrier said the service will be a breakthrough for people who "love their TV, but hate their TV providers." TVision Home combines streaming TV and online video at a lower cost and won't restrict customers to lengthy contracts or bundles that include channels or content they don't want to watch, T-mobile said.

TVision Home will offer more than 275 channels, 4K content and over 35,000 on-demand movies and shows. The service will cost $90 per month, with a $9.99 per month discount for T-Mobile customers, plus $10 a month per connected TV, T-Mobile said.

T-Mobile also is building in features that include on-screen social content from Facebook and Twitter, a personalized home screen and DVR for each user, smart speaker voice control with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, and access to connected security cameras. With TVision Home, the company pledges to do away with any bill increases or add-on fees like broadcast, HD, activation and early termination fees.
