In an attempt to gain more subscribers in the highly competitive U.S. wireless market, T-Mobile will offer a free subscription to video streaming service Netflix with its unlimited data family plans. This comes as part of an exclusive, long-term agreement that the company struck with Netflix.

The primary beneficiaries of the new initiative will be subscribers to T-Mobile's "One" unlimited data plans, who have two or more lines. They will get a standard Netflix subscription, normally priced at $10 a month, for free. The plans are priced at $40 per line for a family of four.

The free Netflix access arrives on Sept. 12. Customers on legacy or promotional plans, like two lines for $100, or the senior citizen discount, need to upgrade to a T-Mobile One family plan to be eligible.

"The future is mobile, over-the-top and unlimited," said T-Mobile Chief Executive John Legere. "While the carriers spend billions on their franken-strategies to cobble together carrier-cable-content mashups, the Un-carrier just leapfrogged them all by partnering with the best and giving it to customers at no extra charge."
