T-Mobile Changing 200MB Data Plan Away From Throttling To Overage

T-Mobile USA, the nation's number four wireless carrier, will reportedly switch its lowest data plan at 200 MB a month from a tiered, but throttled unlimited offering, to a tiered and metered data plan with overages. The changes are said to take effect on August 14th, though those already on the throttling version of the plan will be able to keep it.

The overages will cost 10 cents per MB, with a limit of $30 on Classic plans and $35 on Value plans. Users will get a notification when they hit the 180MB point, and again when they break the 200MB limit.

In a leaked document obtained by TmoNewsIn, T-Mobile notes that the 200MB plan has "exceeded expectations" and it needs to charge the overages "to remain competitive." However, it's unclear if T-Mobile's higher end mobile data plans will also be migrating to a tiered and metered usage policy in the future.
