Soon after its launch on Friday, the iPhone 5 is now in the hands of millions, and reports are emerging of issues and faults with its wireless connectivity.

Some users have been able to determine that the problem comes when connecting to WPA2 encrypted Wi-Fi routers, and found that moving to (the much less secure) WEP encryption or being unprotected can resolve the issue.

"Very, very slow and frequent drops, almost unusable. Had no issues with the iPhone 4. I am using wpa2 and have no interest in switching to wep. Did apple even test this thing?" said mleary on the MacRumors forum.

"I deactivate... the WPA2 Personal Wifi Security [on the router] and the iphone started to browse the web normally," wrote one poster identified as C4RLOCO, on the Support Communities forum.

According to a post from Apple forum user, Apple seems to be aware of the issue, but a resolution is not yet available:

"Just spoke with iPhone AppleCare and they are definitely aware of the problem and Apple engineers are working on it. I asked if it was hardware or software related and she said the WPA2 issue seems to be software based and the non-connecting issue may be hardware based, but that they are still trying to identify the cause."

Meanwhile, some users complain that the black iPhone 5 is easy to scratch. Reportedly, the black slate covering wears off easily, making the model look scratched or scuffed. Even more - it is claimed that some iPhone 5 models were cosmetically damaged straight out of the box.
