Some Comcast customers infected by malware virus

Comcast has warned some of its high-speed Internet subscribers in Utah and other markets that their computers and other devices may be infected by malware. Instead of using the subscribers' e-mails, the company sent them letters via the U.S. Postal Service.

"One or more of the devices connected to your network are infected with malware," the MSO wrote in one of the letters sent to a Utah subscriber. "This allows the cyber criminal to redirect your computer and other devices to websites that may look legitimate, but are fraudulent and intended to steal your personal information and website logins and passwords," it adds.

The letters also included instructions on changing a computer's DNS settings in order to access Web servers that haven't been infected with malware.

Ray Child, Comcast spokesman, would not reveal how many local customers are receiving the letters, but a customer service representative said many people are getting them. Child told the Daily Herald that despite the warning, Comcast will not cut service to anyone who gets the letter.

"This is not a widespread issue," Child said. "From time to time some of our customers are in this situation. We are doing our best to proactively help them avoid computer viruses and problems."

Common... I hooked up a ladies PC once on my network at home and within a few hours got an email saying I had a PC infected with a bot net or something along those lines. I had since cleaned the massive amount of infects off it but they could see the traffic it was producing. Aside from this Comcast needs to help crack down on phishing, I've gotten 3 emails in 2 months that look identical to Comcast or Xfinity tryin to say I'm having issues with my account, log in blah blah blah.. one page asked for extensive info including mothers maiden name. I've forwarded all these to their abuse dept but have yet heard feedback on them or what they intend to do.
