Samsung has recently urged Galaxy Note 7 users to turn off and stop using their phones immediately and exchange them, as more reports of the phones catching fire emerged even after the company's global recall.

"We are asking users to power down their Galaxy Note 7s and exchange them as soon as possible," said Koh Dong-jin, Samsung's mobile president. "We are expediting replacement devices so that they can be provided through the exchange program as conveniently as possible."

Several airlines around the world asked travelers not to switch on the jumbo smartphone or put it in checked baggage, with some carriers banning the phone on flights.

The announcement is part of a global recall affecting up to ten countries. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owners in the U.S. will be able to exchange their phones for a number of models, in addition to receiving a $25 gift card.

The recall of some 2.5 million devices could cost Samsung as much as $5 billion.
