Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S24 devices - Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra - at its first Unpacked of the year. As expected, the three smartphones have a heavy focus on artificial intelligence-powered features, from the likes of live translations to image editing. The move is an effort to create features that improve the user experience, including real-time language translation during calls, a visual search function and improved transcription capabilities.

Many of these functions (but not all) are powered by Google's Gemini artificial intelligence model, and some of them already exist on Google's own Pixel smartphones. Google has long dominated Search simply by being the default option everywhere - now it's employing a similar strategy in leveraging Android to bring its AI prowess to a wider stage.

At the center of the handsets is Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which brings improved graphics performance and AI computing. You'll receive more RAM on the Plus model (12GB instead of 8GB), for what it's worth.

As for the cameras, Samsung says it's packed the new Galaxy S24 line with larger pixel sensors and 2x wider optical image stabilization. Expect clearer and less jittery photos and videos when taken in low-light environments, and better color reproduction in general.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra goes on sale for $1,300 - $100 pricier than last year's Galaxy S23 Ultra - on Jan. 31 alongside the cheaper Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24. All three are available for preorder now.
