Mozilla teams up with Foxconn to debut a Firefox OS tablet?

Mozilla is working with Apple hardware-maker Foxconn to release a mobile device running Firefox OS, it told news outlets on Monday, and plans to unveil it at an event next week.

The move comes as Foxconn is struggling with new rivals for orders from Apple, its biggest customer, and Mozilla seeks to challenge the dominance of Google’s Android in the world's smartphone markets.

"We can make a difference if we can achieve a market share of about 10 per cent," Gong Li, head of mobile devices and president of Asia operations at Mozilla, said.

Firefox isn't allowed on iOS, and it's not the default on Android, which means Mozilla has little leverage in charting the course of the Web. So, it makes sense that the company is partnering with manufacturers and looking to jump into making its own devices.
