Mozilla launches Firefox Send free file transfer service

Mozilla launched today Firefox Send, a free, encrypted file sharing service, accessible in all browsers at send.firefox.com. Additionally, Mozilla is making Firefox Send available as a standalone app on Android, though that will remain a beta product for now.

Firefox Send allows users to send up to 1GB of files for free. Users can have their file size capacity bumped up to 2.5GB if they sign up for a free Firefox account. Unlike other file hosting services, there is currently no paid options.

Files are sent with end-to-end encryption, meaning they're safe from prying eyes. For even greater protection, you can specify when the file link expires, the number of times it can be downloaded, and add a password.

The system offers an alternative to email, where larger file attachments are more of an issue, as well as cloud storage sites, like Google Drive and Dropbox, which can be time-consuming when all you need to do is share a single file one time — not store the file, edit it or collaborate with others.
