Popular BitTorrent site Mininova is undertaking a drastic transformation in an effort to legitimize its services by purging all torrents that enable access to copyright-protected content. File-sharing enthusiasts view this as a major blow to the vitality of the BitTorrent piracy ecosystem. The move will bring Mininova into compliance with an August ruling in in which a Dutch judge ordered the site's operators to remove links to infringing content within three months. Failing to comply would have exposed them to the risk of €5 million in fines. Mininova's moderators have consistently removed individual items of infringing material from the site upon request from various rightsholders. They believed that this satisfied the requirements of Dutch legal provisions that partially insulate Web site owners from liability for infringing content published by users. The court was not satisfied, however, and ruled that Mininova was inciting infringement by failing to proactively filter torrents submitted to the site. Read more -here-
