Microsoft issues Internet Explorer 10 patch for Adobe flaws

Microsoft has issued an update for Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 that should remedy some problems with Adobe Flash. The update comes just hours after Adobe released a set of security updates for its Flash Player software on "all platforms."

Unlike earlier versions of Internet Explorer, IE10 bundles Flash Player as an integral part of the browser, much like how Google bundles Flash with Chrome. That means Adobe's patches, which are designed for the plug-in version of Flash, won't work on IE10. As with other IE10 security flaws, security fixes for IE10's Flash component can only come from Microsoft.

"Today we released an update that addresses vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8. The majority of customers have automatic updates enabled and will not need to take any action because the update will be downloaded and installed automatically," says the short note from Vishwac Sena Kannan, programme manager for Internet Explorer.

"For those manually updating, we encourage you to apply this update as quickly as possible. This update addresses the vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player by updating the affected Adobe Flash binaries contained within Internet Explorer 10."
