Lenovo and Google Vietnam websites hijacked by DNS attacks

Lenovo's official website and Google's website in Vietnam have been attacked by a group of hackers called Lizard Squad. Both companies were victims of "domain hijacking", which means that the domain name records for both companies were modified to redirect to different websites when people entered "lenovo.com" and "google.com.vn."

"The Lenovo site you are attempting to access is currently unavailable due to system maintenance," Lenovo's home website (www.lenovo.com) stated after the attack occurred. "Please try the site again in a few minutes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may create."

Instead of compromising Lenovo's servers, the hackers got access to those of Web Commerce Communications (Webnic.cc), the Internet registrar with whom the Lenovo domain is registered.

"One effect of this attack was to redirect traffic from the Lenovo website," Lenovo said in a statement. "We are also actively investigating other aspects. "We are responding and have already restored certain functionality to our public-facing website."

Reportedly, all the emails that were sent to the company were also redirected for the period in which Lizard Squad had control over the domain's DNS and the domain itself.

Similarly to the first attack, "google.com.vn" has redirected visitors to a page that read, "Hacked by Lizard Squad, greetz from antichrist, Brian Krebs, sp3c, Komodo, ryan, HTP & Rory Andrew Godfrey (holding it down in Texas)."
