During the weekend, Google reported an outage with its Cloud Platform that caused interruptions in several sites and apps, such as Snapchat, YouTube, Gmail, G Suite, Discord and others. According to Down Detector, which logs outages and service interruptions, the outages appeared to have been primarily clustered along the East Coast of the United States as well as in parts of South America and Europe.

Google acknowledged the outage and blamed the issue on network congestion. The problem has already been rersolved and all those apps and services are running as usual.

"We will conduct an internal investigation of this issue and make appropriate improvements to our systems to help prevent or minimize future recurrence. We will provide a detailed report of this incident once we have completed our internal investigation. This detailed report will contain information regarding SLA credits."

Google Cloud is the company's hosting platform, similar to Amazon's Amazon Web Services and Microsoft's Azure. In addition to powering its own services, other companies such as Snapchat and Uber, rely on Google's infrastructure to provide the backend for their apps and platforms.
