FCC's Net Neutrality Rules Take Effect Nov. 20

The FCC is going to publish the Net Neutrality rules today. The rules are designed to prevent Internet providers from deliberately blocking or slowing traffic and will take effect in November. However, they do not prevent providers from offering faster traffic for companies that may need it for delivering video, games, and other services.

Publication of the rules is expected to kick off a new series of legal challenges by broadband providers unhappy with them. Earlier this year, Verizon Communications Inc. and MetroPCS Communications Inc. sued the FCC in a Washington, D.C., appeals court to block the new rules, arguing that the agency exceeded its authority. In April, those lawsuits were tossed out for being premature.
