Facebook, Instagram restored service after major outage

Instagram, Facebook and Messenger have suffered a major Thanksgiving outage. In fact, almost all of Facebook's products were hit by the problem, with the exception of WhatsApp, which appears to have successfully stayed online.

The problems were seen across the world, though did not appear to affect all users the same. Some said they were still able to see parts of each app, while others reported that the services appeared to be working as normal.

Instagram initially acknowledged the issue on Twitter early Thursday morning, noting that "some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook's family of apps, including Instagram." The company noted it was "working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."

"Earlier today, an issue in one of our central software systems caused many people to have trouble accessing Facebook's family of apps," a Facebook spokesperson said. "We quickly investigated, started restoring access, and we're now monitoring for full recovery. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

Facebook says it's restored service to its main social network, as well as Instagram.
