Facebook back up after global outage

Facebook users worldwide had trouble accessing the social media website Monday morning, with many receiving an error messages stating, "An error occurred. Please try again later." Some who were able to log on to the site found they were unable to post a status update, instead receiving an error message which read, "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again later."

"Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused," according to a post on Facebook's developer page.

Scattered problems with posting to Facebook are nothing new, but such a widespread issue that goes global is rare. An official hashtag of sorts, #FacebookDown, was shared in multiple languages from multiple countries.

Now, several hours after the disruption, Facebook appears to be back up and running normally.
