Comcast and NBCUniversal are going to start making Comcast's Xfinity cable TV subscribers pay for NBCU's Peacock streaming service starting in June. Since Comcast's streaming service launched, it has been free to Comcast Xfinity Video customers and Comcast's Xfinity Internet customers with Flex. Now according to an internal Comcast presentation posted on Reddit, that will end this Summer.

As part of the change, Xfinity will start offering a discounted version of Peacock to Xfinity subscribers in place of the free subscription. It's still unclear how much this add-on will cost. The company will also stop offering free Peacock Premium to new Xfinity customers starting on April 3rd, and will only provide free, six-month trials going forward.

Last month, Peacock stopped offering the free ad-supported standalone service to new users. At the time, the company said it believed Peacock's paid tiers were the best way to experience the service. More likely, it's because despite counting 20 million subscribers in 2022, up 9 million from the year before, Peacock has yet to turn a profit for NBCU/Comcast.

According to the most recent numbers, Peacock has 20 million paying customers with 30 million total active users, including its free accounts. That compares to 46 million subscribers to Paramount+, 73.7 million Disney+ subscribers, and 39.4 million Hulu subscribers.
