Comcast CEO Brian Roberts showed off the next-generation cable broadband technology, providing data at over 1 Gigabit per second to the home. According to Roberts, this is the next generation of Xfinity, the company's hybrid cable-based video/phone/data service that started two years ago. He did not point when Comcast would offer 1-Gbit speeds to consumers and at what price.

The CEO showed off the future of the Comcast interface, as well.

"What I want to show you today is not the future, but right here, right now," Roberts said, presenting the "Xcalibur" interface that is currently in trials in Augusta, Georgia. "It can be innovated, changed, on the fly, and it can be changed for everyone across the country," Roberts said of the new interface.

The new interface is based on cloud computing. It offers the traditional channel view, as well as some new features, such as "last" button, showing the last nine channels, and applications including weather, traffic (with maps and traffic-camera video) and Facebook.
