Comcast rolls out free Wi-Fi to community centers2020-09-18 18:39 by DanielaTags: Comcast, Wi-Fi
Today, Comcast launched a multi-year program to provide free Wi-Fi at more than 1,000 community centers in the United States. It's working with city leaders and nonprofit organizations to install these Wi-Fi spots, which it refers to as "Lift Zones." The goal is to help students participate in distance learning and to do their homework. In addition to free internet connectivity, the carrier said it will provide access to "hundreds of hours of educational and digital skills content to help families and site coordinators navigate online learning" at Lift Zones. "What we've learned throughout this pandemic is that although at-home internet connectivity is the number one barrier to remote or hybrid learning, connectivity is only one barrier that prevents our nation's kids from logging in and participating," said Evan Marwell, CEO and Founder of Education SuperHighway, a Lift Zone partner. "No one single answer alone will solve this problem. These Lift Zones can offer families much needed support when at-home connectivity is either not available or the student is unable to participate in their home environment." Comcast is also offering free Wi-Fi to the public in the form of 1.5 million public Xfinity hotspots through the end of 2020. Read more -here-
