Clearwire ends postpaid wireless data plans, offers prepaid unlimited for $50 per month

Clearwire is paring down its direct-to-consumer offerings today, removing its on-contract, postpaid plans in order to offer a single, $50 a month prepaid service for its 4G WiMAX network. The move essentially removes its previous postpaid service plan options along with device leasing, activation fees, early termination fees and restocking fees.

"It's part of a broader realignment of our offers to focus more on our core 4G network services," explained Clearwire spokesman Mike DiGioia, who declined to provide details.

The company says that these changes will only affect new customers, and that existing customers will be able to keep their existing plans and devices.
