Avast has revealed that 60.2 per cent of Adobe Reader users are running vulnerable versions of the program.

"AVAST Software researchers have discovered that six out of every ten users of Adobe Reader are running unpatched versions of the program, leaving them vulnerable to a variety of malware attacks."

The Avast research was based on reports from users of the firm's anti-virus software. Among users with Adobe Reader, only 40 percent had the latest or a fully patched version. One out of every five users were running an unpatched version at least two generations old (8.x).

Exploits of vulnerabilities in Adobe Reader are second only to exploits in Java. If you're still running an older version, it's well past time to update.
