AT&T will officially launch its new high-speed mobile data network on Sunday. LTE, which stands for Long Term Evolution, initially will be offered only as a data service but will eventually be used for voice communications as well. It will be available in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Other major markets will get the upgraded service in the coming months.

The carrier has already released some LTE devices - the USB Connect Momentum 4G modem and the Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G, both made by Sierra Wireless. The devices are available for $49.99 and $69.99, respectively, with a two-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate.

AT&T will charge $50 for 5 gigabytes of data per month with the LTE devices.
