AT&T launched its U-verse all-fiber Internet network with GigaPower in Austin, Texas yesterday, which will deliver initial speeds of 300 megabits-per- second with an option for 1Gbps next year. According to AT&T, its new service will offer upstream speeds 20 times faster than what's available today, and it will reportedly allow users to download a full HD movie in under two minutes.
Austin residents can sign up for "standard" service for $99 or a month "premier" service for $70 a month. However, in order to qualify for the $70- per-month offer, customers have to agree "to participate in AT&T Internet preferences." This means that they will see targeted ads from AT&T and its partners.
