AT&T has become the first big US wireless carrier to announce that its customers can now use cryptocurrency to pay their monthly bill online. The move makes the carrier one of the first few major businesses to adapt the increasingly popular digital currency.

The telecom giant has partnered up with BitPay for the new feature. BitPay is one of the largest blockchain payment processors. For payment, the service will accept Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. The company says that customers may select BitPay as a payment option when using either the AT&T website or the AT&T mobile app to pay their bills.

"We're always looking for ways to improve and expand our services," said Kevin McDorman, vice president, AT&T Communications Finance Business Operations, in a statement about the new payment option. "We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer."

Despite its volatility, a number of companies have started accepting payments in the form of Bitcoin, the most popular of all cryptocurrencies. Earlier this month, a number of retailers announced plans to accept cryptocurrency payments through a mobile wallet called SPEDN, including Whole Foods, Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath & Beyond, and more.
