Amazon failure disrupts hundreds of thousands of websites

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud-computing service, suffered an unspecified breakdown on Tuesday. Known as S3, Amazon's "simple storage service" provides features ranging from file sharing to web feeds.

The issue caused unprecedented and widespread problems for thousands of websites and apps. Among the affected websites were businessinsider.com, Giphy, Quora and even downforeveryoneorjustme.com, a website made to check if a page is experiencing an outage.

Currently the services are up and running. Here's what Amazon said:

"As of 1:49 PM PST, we are fully recovered for operations for adding new objects in S3, which was our last operation showing a high error rate. The Amazon S3 service is operating normally."
