A year old security hole leaves Ipads vulnerable

Jailbroken Ipads are susceptible to the same worm that brought Iphone users in contact with Rick Astley last year.

The worm in question, Eeki.A, first surfaced last year and served more as a proof of concept rather than a malicious bit of code. Eeki.A only affected those users who had jailbroken their Iphone OS devices in order to get away from the restrictions of Apple's App Store. All the worm did was replace the Iphone's lock-screen wallpaper with a picture of musical terror Rick Astley.

While the effects of Eeki.A were minimal, the message was loud and clear. Apple put restrictions on application installation because its Iphone OS is just as insecure as any other operating system out there. However it appears that, unlike its rivals, Apple can't be bothered to fix its problems.

Given that Apple is typically smug about the perceived security advantage of its operating systems over those of its rivals, it is shocking that the same security flaw still exists today.
