Can I host servers on my residential broadband connection ?

Tags:
Most Cable Modem ISPs do not allow any type of server applications ran by residential customers. Some even go a step further, blocking ports to avoid customers running web, ftp or mail servers. Generally, if you host a small server for personal use it will be tolerated, as long as it doesn't consume much bandwidth. You might want to contact your ISP for their position on running servers.
