Bots account for over half of internet traffic2014-12-19 10:09 by DanielaTags: bot, Internet
A recent research by the security company Incapsula has shown that over half of all the traffic on the internet is created by non-human bots. They count for about 56 per cent of total web traffic. Most of these bots are 'good' bots, including 'crawlers' that index web pages for search engines, social networking platforms, RSS feeds and translation services. Actually, the 'good' bots are absolutely necessary for some services to run properly. However, the company found a growing number of 'bad' bots - they have increased by as much as 15%, compared to those of last year. Among these are bots that commit click and ad fraud, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, scan for vulnerable targets, and spy. Surprisingly, small websites with fewer than 1,000 daily visitors receive the most bot traffic, reaching 80 per cent. In comparison, large sites with more than 100,000 daily visitors receive only 56.2 per cent bot visits. Read more -here-
