Sega and Microsoft have formed a next-gen tech 'alliance'

Sega and Microsoft today announced they have agreed in principle to a new partnership that will allow the former to build games on the latter's Azure cloud platform.

The two companies call the partnership a "strategic alliance." According to Sega's press release, this will allow the game developer to explore ways to "produce large-scale, global games in a next-generation development environment."

"This proposed alliance represents Sega looking ahead," Sega said via a statement, "...by working with Microsoft to anticipate such trends as they accelerate further in future, the goal is to optimize development processes and continue to bring high-quality experiences to players using Azure cloud technologies."

Sega and Microsoft are looking to build further technological evolutions, with a priority on network infrastructure and communication tools required for global online services, through mutual cooperation. Sega will also adapt to diversifying work styles and infrastructural changes by shifting to a next-generation development platform. By working with Microsoft, Sega aims to optimize development processes using Azure cloud technologies and anticipate trends as they accelerate.
