Rumors of Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger2013-11-26 08:57 by DanielaTags: Comcast, Time Warner Cable
Comcast Corp. and Charter Communications Inc., have reportedly discussed a joint bid to buy Time Warner Cable Inc. and divvy up its customers. In such a scenario, Comcast would likely get the big metro markets of New York, Dallas, and Los Angeles, while Charter would take smaller markets such as North Carolina, Maine, and parts of Ohio. Such a merger would be heavily scrutinized by the U.S. regulators, including the Justice Dept., which would address antitrust concerns, and the Federal Communications Commission, which would be charged with ensuring that the deal serves the public interest. Combining the number one and number two cable companies in the country would create a cable empire with approximately 33 million customers. Comcast already owns NBCUniversal, one of the crown jewels of the media industry, after buying the company from industrial conglomerate General Electric in a highly controversial deal.
So far neither company is commenting on the rumors. Read more -here-
