The U.S. Federal Communications Commission's comment period regarding the proposed Sprint/T-Mobile US merger ended on Aug. 27, and two big names in the telecoms industry bothered to protest. Altice, Dish and the Rural Wireless Association all told the FCC the move from four to three national carriers would harm American consumers. Dish's argument is that T-Mobile and Sprint are overselling the benefits for America's 5G network rollout if they merge. In addition, the two smaller US carriers are yet to file convincing explanations how the merger risks for the public good will be negated by its advantages. "Economic analysis and empirical evidence demonstrate that, instead of enhancing competition, such consolidation is apt to thwart it," Dish wrote in its filing. "In seeking approval for this transaction, the Applicants must show that the proposed merger will not have anti-competitive effects, or that any such effects will be more than offset by the public benefits that it will produce. But, Sprint and T-Mobile have not yet met this burden, and much work needs to be done for them to carry it." The Communications Workers of America also expressed their concerns regarding the merger. According to them, T-Mobile US Inc.'s proposed $26.5 billion purchase of Sprint Corp. would cost jobs, threaten competition and may not speed the arrival of advanced 5G networks. Read more -here-
