Security software giant Symantec has stepped into the hardware business through its brand Norton. At CES 2017, the company announced its app-enabled router built to secure connected homes. The Norton Core offers up 802.11ac Wi-Fi broadcasting across both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands, with a maximum throughput of 2,500Mbps. Basically, it's like a firewall for your entire network. The router will inspect every packet of data that passes through it for known pieces of malware and other naughties. This is a common feature in business networking products but is seldom found in kit for use in the home. This router comes with customizable tools allowing users the flexibility to set parameters that work for their home. Parents can set limits for each child for daily internet use, filter out inappropriate content, and even pause the entire home network so the family can enjoy dinner together. If an attempt is made to visit an unauthorised site, access will be blocked and parents will receive a notification. The router does require a subscription to assure it is updated to address new threats. Users will be charged $9.99 a month after the first year to pay for updated-security features. The Norton Core will launch at a discounted price of $199.99 before Symantec bump it up to $279.99 at a later date. Read more -here-
