"Netflix button" coming soon to a remote near you

Is Netflix's instant streaming service so ubiquitous now that it deserves a permanent big red button on our remote controls? What do you think?

If you have a TV with Internet connectivity and "apps," chances are you have a Netflix app. And you might even have a Blu-ray player with the same feature. So instead of going through all those complicated menus to get streaming video on your TV, Netflix wants to simplify things for you.

In a new proposal initiated by the online video subscription company, Netflix buttons may soon be coming to remote controls for Internet-connected living room devices.

"With the Netflix one-click remote, it's simply a matter of pushing the Netflix button to instantly watch any of the vast selection of TV shows and movies available to stream from Netflix," said company executive Neil Hunt in a statement.

There are now more than 250 devices with Netflix connectivity, including TVs, set-top boxes, iPhones, and Blu-ray players. Netflix says it has already secured partnerships with many of the manufacturers that make these devices to incorporate a seamless, dedicated button on their remote controls.
