Microsoft announced today that it has agreed to acquire cybersecurity vendor Hexadite. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hexadite produces AI-powered software to investigate online threats, rate the seriousness of alerts and provide an automated response. The Hexadite software will likely become part of Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (WDATP), which helps Windows 10 customers detect, investigate and respond to advanced attacks on their networks.

Hexadite headquarters are based in Boston, with a team of researchers in Tel Aviv. Following the close of the deal and after a period of integration, Hexadite will be fully absorbed into Microsoft as part of the Windows and Devices Group.

This is not the first security company that Microsoft buys. It has bought a number of security vendors with Israeli roots.

Microsoft bought Secure Islands Technologies in November 2015, with the intent of integrating its technology into its Azure Rights Management Service. Microsoft also bought Adallom in September of that year. Adallom monitors use of software-as-a-service applications. And in 2014, Microsoft bought cloud-security vendor Aorato, which Microsoft rebranded as Advanced Threat Analytics.
